What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is an evidence-based approach to care that aims to restore movement, reduce pain and optimize physical function, taking the whole body into account. At CYMED Medical Clinic, our physiotherapist provides personalized care tailored to each patient, combining manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and education to support mobility, strength and healing.
Patients commonly seek care for sports injuries, neck and back pain, sprains and tears, post-operative or post-fracture rehabilitation, tendinopathies, concussions or balance disorders. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, preparing to return to sport, or simply want to move with greater ease and less pain, physiotherapy offers a safe, active and personalized approach.
What does a physiotherapy consultation involve?
A physiotherapy consultation is a personalized session in which the physiotherapist assesses your condition, identifies underlying issues and develops a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
History & discussion
Your physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, history, lifestyle and goals to understand the root cause of your concerns.
Physical exam & movement assessment
A review of your posture and movement, and an assessment of your muscle strength, flexibility, balance and the movements specific to your activity.
Treatment & manual therapy
Using manual techniques, targeted exercises and education, your physiotherapist helps relieve pain, improve mobility and support the body’s natural healing process.
Personalized advice & exercise plan
Your physiotherapist will provide advice and a home exercise program, along with guidance on load, progression and prevention to support healing and prevent re-injury.
Health tips & information
By adding a few simple habits to your daily routine, you can improve your overall well-being and prevent musculoskeletal problems before they arise.
Maintain good posture
Poor posture can lead to chronic pain, stiffness and tension. Be mindful of how you sit and stand. Keep your shoulders relaxed, your spine neutral, and avoid slouching. If you work at a desk, adjust the height of your chair and screen to maintain healthy posture.
Keep moving
Moving regularly is essential for healthy joints and muscles. Avoid sitting for long periods and be sure to stretch or walk every hour. Low-impact activities such as swimming, yoga and walking can improve flexibility, ease stiffness and prevent injury.
Listen to your body
Pain and discomfort are signals your body sends you – don’t ignore them. If you have persistent pain or stiffness, or notice reduced mobility, address the problem early. Light stretching, good hydration and adequate rest can help, but if symptoms persist, a physiotherapist can assess and treat the root cause.
